Dijon, France 1 - Arrival
We took a train from Lyon to Dijon, a city famous for its mustard, escargots and wine. The train trip was easy but took extra over an hour or so due to a kind of incident on the railroad. We arrived at Dijon after 2pm and we missed the lunch serving time again!
Still a few restaurants were open. We popped in an Italian restaurant that we accidentally found. The place was very crowed. Perhaps there might be who missed the short lunch time hours like us. I don't remember the restaurant's name. We had a table in the covered terrace area, watching people walking on the street and the weather - cloudy with some light rain.
We both had a greet leaf salad with cheese, anchovy and something else. It was pretty good. For pasta, I ordered spaghetti with simple tomato basil sauce. I had a lot of creamy rich dishes in Lyon, so I wanted to taste non-creamy meal. The sauce was simple but the pasta noodles looked like ramen noodles rather than spaghetti. I guess they were hand-made fresh pasta although they were too soft and too short. J had pennes with mushroom and creamy sauce. I don't know how he liked it.
Anyway, our tummies were filled. We walked around the city for a while and stopped by a cafe for tea and desserts. Unfortunately the cafe didn't provide a good choice for desserts but had lots of kinds of tea. We both had just tea. My Japanese green tea was lovely!
It was getting dark outside. We found a roasted chestnut vendor. Roasted chestnuts were going to become our desserts of the day...but we were told the next batch wouldn't be ready soon. It was a bit cold evening for standing in the line. Oh well, we gave up. Our time in Dijon just started, so we knew we would have another chance. The chestnut roasting man said he would be there everyday. We trusted his words.
To be continued...
