Christmas Feast 2024

It was wonderful to have our third Christmas in Wiesbaden. In order to respect where we were, our Christmas dinner was roasted goose, one of the traditional German Christmas recipes, which Google told me. A whole goose sounded too much for just two of us; we bought four legs at the farmers' market in the city center. One per person for two days. The size of the legs were just like chicken. Actually this was my first time to see goose legs in person. In fact I have never cooked goose before. Roasting goose legs took two hours, plus grilling to brown them according to a recipe that I found online. I thought it seemed very long but the result turned out very well. Side dishes were boiled butter potatoes, red cabbage, and kale. The colors of the dish was very Christmas-y. I also made a simple gravy with the drippings, which was tasty on goose as well as potatoes.

Dessert was a Christmas-version of classic Sacher-Torte from Gmeiner, one of my favorite Konditoreien in Wiesbaden.

Gmeiner's gingerbread bear and Santa have been displayed along with our lovely nutcracker soldiers in the living room. They were so adorable and I would love to keep them all the year around, but we ate them after the Christmas after all. They were pretty tasty!

A very merry Christmas!
