Thanksgiving Dinner 2015
We visited J's parents' new house in North Carolina and had Thanksgiving dinner together. Like two years ago, we mail-ordered Nueske's applewood smoked ham instead of cooking turkey. Side dishes - J's favorite stuffing, green bean casserole, and candied yam with roasted marshmallows - were cooked by J's mother cooked from scratch. Everything was so delicious!
For desserts, I didn't bake anything but mail-ordered a fruit pie from a bakery in Michigan, Grand Traverse Pie Company via Foody Direct. J's parents had a pie chest. It was wonderful to know how the Southern people used to store pies in such a charming safe and to demonstrate it with our pie!
Ok, by taking the pie out from the box and set it in the chest, we traveled time back to an old day of J's grandparents or great-grandparents in a moment. I wished to see the chest filled with several pies.
The pie was Michigan ABC - Apple, Blueberries, and Cherries. There was a little "mitten" shaped-crust piece on the top-center of the pie from the mitten state. So cute!
The pie was so delightful! Filling was very fruity and juicy, not starchy or sugary. Crumb toppings were buttery and toasty. J liked it very much too. I was glad to be too lazy to bake anything by myself. We definitely order this pie again! I would love to try a different pie from the bakery too.
Delicious foods and family time. That's our Thanksgiving treats.
