Cheese Tasting Party
A holiday season without cheese would be impossible, at least for J. We had three kinds of cheese from a local cheesemonger, the Cheese Board, along with two kinds of sandwiches from Bettys.
The round, "sunken-drum" shaped, orange soft cheese was Petit Langres made in the Champagne region in France. "A tradition is to pour Champagne into the drum of the cheese before eating it. Washed in brine and annatto to give it its orange colouring," according to the cheesemonger. It was very strong!
One with the white rind was Wigmore, a semi-soft cheese produced in the village of Rinsley in Berkshire, South-East England. "Named after the cheese makers, Andy and Anne Wigmore, this cheese is a traditional hand-made ewe’s milk cheese matured for six weeks. It has a bloomy rind and the paste is soft and creamy. It tastes milky and floral without being heavy or overpowering." This was our favorite among three!
The cheese on the left was... unfortunately I don't remember the name. Starting with M, I thought, but now I am not sure about it either. It was the cheesemonger's recommendation according to J's request on a semi-hard, nutty cheese. The texture was crumbly like mature cheddar. It was nutty alright and tasted like cheddar. I remember it wasn't cheddar, though.
It was a lovely cheese party to taste those cheese that were new for us and discover our new favorite!
