Bettys Festive Afternoon Tea To-Go

Our lunch/dinner for a day before Thanksgiving day was a lovely afternoon tea from Bettys! Bettys offered Festive Afternoon Tea sets for take-out. We made an order for two sets by phone some days ago and picked it up at their stop. Easy! The sets didn't come with tea. No problem. Bettys Tea Room Blend had been our staple at home. I brew a couple of the teabags in a pot. I don't have a traditional three-layer-serving plates. Oh well, I had to use our usual plates, which probably J didn't mind.

There were four kinds of sandwiches: cucumber, dill & cream cheese; coronation chicken; ham & wholegrain mustard; and smoked salmon. Everything was tasty and well-made, especially I liked smoked salmon, which was very smoky! I warmed scones up in the oven quickly before serving. A warm scone with strawberry jam and clotted cream is irresistible as always. Since we usually don't have clotted cream at home, I was glad that the set included the right amount of the dangerously rich but delightful cream as well as strawberry jam. Three miniature cakes were chocolate cube; mini mince pie; and cherry macaroon. Because the afternoon tea was a "Festive" version, they were holiday-themed cakes. I loved them all. I am not a big macaroon fan because it tends to be too sweet for me, but this was tiny and acceptable.

The afternoon tea at home was very satisfying, particularly after a good walk! One in the town center of Harrogate was the closest shop but we chose one at Harlow Carr for a pick-up point. It took about 30 minute walk there from home. So, we did approximately one hour walk total. About a half way was a part of trails in pine woods that were adjacent to Valley Garden. The weather was nice. It was fun to walk in nature to the shop and bring our special treats back home.
