This was blackberry syrup and whipped cream on homemade waffles.
The blackberry syrup was a gift from J's mother. I haven't had blackberry syrup before. It's apparently one of Southern foods although it didn't seem that J has had it before. I saw online that some people use blackberry syrup on pancakes, so we tried it on homemade waffles with whipped cream.
The syrup was very sweet with gentle berry flavor. With waffles, the subtle flavor was unfortunately hidden. Mixing it into homemade lemonade would be lovely. A little sourness could brighten berry's sweetness. In fact I have seen some pictures of drinks with blackberry syrup online, too. It's a fun to learn and enjoy Southern specialities!
