Shakshuka for Easter
This was Shakshuka, our Easter dinner of 2017!
I was thinking of what to make for Easter - we have had a lot of meat/chicken dishes these days, so a kind of egg dish would be nice, but it would probably not quiche, which is a typical Easter brunch menu, because many eggs along with cheese and cream in buttery crust sounded a little heavy. When I was getting tired of thinking, finally I got a great idea: Shakshuka.
The North African/Middle Eastern egg dish is about not meat or cream/cheese, but flavorful spicy tomato-red bell pepper sauce spiced with cumin and Harissa, a North African hot chili pepper paste. And, of course, eggs. They are presented in the sauce beautifully. It would be a lovely Easter dinner. Yes, it was!
We were happy with the result of Shakshuka. I adapted the recipe from Jerusalem" cookbook again. Beer in frosted glass made J happier! Happy Easter!
