Barcelona, Spain 7 - El Xampanyet
Lunch at El Xampanyet, a popular tapas bar in the El Born district was pretty good! The place is named after its own homemade brand of sparkling white wine, or cava. Our friendly waiter recommended it to us and J had a glass. We ordered some plates. Tortilla with salted cod was savory. I enjoyed it very much. I was glad to have a chance to taste Pan con tomate (bread with tomato) a traditional food of Catalans here. It was very simple as it looked and simply tasty. J ordered a kind of cured meat, which was nice too. Chickpeas with bacons (?) was also lovely but a bit heavy. I guess chickpeas were oil-fried before sauteed.
The tapas bar was located by the Picasso Museum that we visited before the lunch. It is said that the museum has one of the most complete permanent collections of artworks by one of the most world-famous artists in the 20th-century. It was quite interesting to see the extensive collections. Best of all, the day on when we visited was a free admission day. I wished that my father, who loved painting, could join us to walk around the museum together.
