Lincoln, Lincolnshire 2 - The Cheese Society

Lunch at the Cheese Society was wonderful! It was an artisan cheese shop with a cafe space to taste cheese and cheese-y dishes. The shop was bright and contemporary filled with cheese aroma. It sound like a paradise for J. In fact the place was J's pick!

J had a classic Macaroni Cheese with chili flakes, made with Quicke's Farmhouse Cheddar, Parmesan and Breadcrumbs. Quicke is a family-based cheesemaker in Devon who has been creating clothbound cheddar by hand in the old-fashioned way since the 16th century. The traditional clothbound method is known to generate a much more condensed, developed flavor and drier texture, comparing with wax-coating method, during the aging process. I had a couple of bites of J's Mac'n Cheese, which was very good although with chili, too spicy for me!

I wanted to try a local cheese. So I chose Lincolnshire Rarebit - caramelized onions and Boston sausages covered with melted Lincolnshire Poacher Rarebit (cheese mixed with mustard, beer, Worcestershire sauce and breadcrumbs) on toasted sourdough. It looked rich but it was tasty! I finished it up quickly. I must have been very hungry...

Lincoln is a small town but provides several interesting historic spots to see. For example, Newport Arch, the remains of a 3rd-century Roman city gate is the oldest arch in the UK still actively used by traffic; The huge over 100-year-old Westgate Water Tower, which houses a heavy steel plated water tank designed by the same engineers who designed the Titanic, still supplies water to the majority of uphill Lincoln today, etc.

During our exploring in the town, we visited Museum of Lincolnshire Life where showcases the culture of Lincolnshire and its people from the 18th century to today through various exhibitions.
