Lincoln, Lincolnshire 1 - Madame Waffles

We made an overnight trip to Lincoln, a cathedral town of Lincolnshire. We arrived at Lincoln Center Station around 10am. The first thing to do in the town was having a brunch at Madame Waffles, a family-run Belgian style waffle restaurant. The place was on High Street, the main street of Lincoln, just a couple of blocks away from the Lincoln Stonebow, an archway under the Guildhall, a Tudor building built in the early 16th century.

The menu offered sweet and savory. I chose sweet; J did savory. No surprise. Mine was a waffle topped with seasonal fruit, Greek yogurt and honey. I wondered what fruit were in season. The answer was cantaloupe, pineapple, honeydew, grape, and kiwi. Really? Anyway, the waffle was light and the fruit along with Greek yogurt and honey was refreshing after a three-hour-train ride. I enjoyed my choice very much. J's savory waffle came with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, plus mushrooms and beans for sides. He didn't make any specific statement but I guess he liked his dish.

After the lovely brunch, we kept walking on High Street that became The Strait and then Steep Hill. At the top of the hill were the Lincoln Castle and the Lincoln Cathedral. Many small shops including tea rooms and art galleries stood in a row on the long main street, which was nice to browse and take away a cup of tea on our way. Oh, warning! Steep Hill was literally steep!
