Galettes des Rois

This was Galettes des rois, or King Cake, from our local French bakery, Bonaparte.

The cake came with a cute crown. The filling in the buttery flaky pie crust was traditional almond cream. Actually it was more like custard cream with almond. It was very custardy.

So, who was the king of the day? It was me!! Actually when J cut the cake, he found the fève, bean and kindly put on my plate. Then, the golden crown was put on my head!

This year's fève was a cute donkey. Was that because this year's zodiac sign is horse?! J insisted donkey was not horse, though... Who knows what meaning is behind the donkey?
