These were traditional Japanese confections from Japan.
My parents sent us them for our birthdays in February. One was Kuri-don, or sweetened chestnut in sweetened Azuki red bean jelly; the other was Monaka, or sweetened Azuki red bean paste sandwiched between thin crisp wafers made with rice.
