Barbakan in York

Our first visit to York was in the mid-August. The old town was packed with visitors who were apparently on summer vacation. We tried to find a street with less crowds as well as a place for a peaceful lunch. After a good, long walk, we happened to find Barbakan, a Polish restaurant.
We shared Spinach and smoked cheese oscypek Pierogi and Zawijaniec (pancake stuffed with buckwheat and vegetables, topped with smoked cheese and baked in tomato sauce). Both were pretty good! The restaurant offered more than a dozen of cake options. How could I leave there without trying one? Many of them looked nice. We followed our server's favorite - poppy seed tart.
The tart was delightful. I would love to come back there to pick up another piece (and a different tart too) sometime soon.
The medieval city was so crowded. Before and after the lovely lunch, we only quickly saw a few of historical sites such as Bootham Bar, one of main gatehouses of the wall ruins; a part of Museum Gardens, including St. Mary's Abby; the garden of Treasurer's House, and the Shambles.

We came back to York in fall, when the town was less crowded. I will make a post about it sometime later.
