Luxembourg am Hierscht 4 - The City again

We stayed in the City of Luxembourg on Day 4. While we were walking into the city center in the morning crisp air, we could see the beautiful building of La Banque et Caisse d'Epargne de l'Etat, Luxembourg (the Luxembourg State and Savings Bank) over there nicely. A bank would look like a palace in this country, one of the top financial centers in the world.

The golden lady, the Gëlle Fra, a symbol of freedom and resistance for the Luxembourg people was shinning at Place de la Constitution.

We had a nice breakfast at Cocottes Chimay. The bright and cozy cafe's specialty seemed like quiches. We tried two kinds of them to share. One was with goat cheese, butternut, and rosemary. The other was with mushroom and chicken. Both were delicious!

Time to walk around the city!

Time to shop J's Luxembourg Champagne, Crémant de Luxembourg!

Also some bread for the next day's breakfast at Oberweis, probably the famous famous bakery in the city!

When we walked in front of the Grand Ducal Palace, the official residence of the grand duke of Luxembourg, changing of the guard just began!

Shortly after the ceremony, the gate was open. Some policemen were there. Something must happen! I assumed the Grand Duke was leaving the palace. We waited there for a while.

Three cars arrived between motorcycle escorts.

A lady who came out from the first car smiled at me! She was Madam Elżbieta Witek, Poland's lower-house Speaker. She was visiting the Grand Duke to discuss the recent situation of Poland and Europe.

Time to do window-shopping til lunch time!

Lunch time! We tried traditional Luxembourgish dishes at Café-Restaurant Um Dierfgen.

We ordered fresh green salad to be ready for rich meaty dishes followed. How wise are we?

Wäinzoossis mat Môschterzooss - grilled sausages with fine Luxembourgish mustard and wine sauce. They are typical Luxembourg pork and beef sausage, similar to bratwurst in Germany. Tasty! I liked the sausage and the dish was very satisfied with mashed potato.

The other dish we shared was Judd mat Gaardebounen, smoked collar of pork with broad (fava) beans. Potatoes with bacon was served as well. Pretty hearty!

We were stuffed so much. What we needed was not desserts but a nice slow walk down to the Grunt and took a shortcut to our Airb&b. We found new viewpoints during the walk, taking more photos! I confess that we had a slice of walnut cake with tea when we got our Airb&b...
