Strasbourg, France Day 4

Day 4 was our last day in Strasbourg. It was a shopping day! But having a breakfast was the first thing to do. We came back to L'atelier 116. They open at 7am; their bread is very good; they have a space to eat. It's an ideal place for early birds like us. I wish they have more space for more tables, though. We successfully grabbed the biggest table at the back of the shop this morning, but we ended up with sharing it with a group of three. Oh well, at least there was no problem and I enjoyed my pain aux raisins.

It was still too early to shop when we left the bakery. We wandered in the old town for a while. Last chance to admire the majestic cathedral!

Time for shopping! Kougelhopf was a must for me. There were many bakeries in Strasbourg and it looked like every bakery makes Kougelhopf. My question was from which bakery I should buy the regional delicacy. I chose Mason Naegel. They are an old bakery in the town (since 1927) (= they must be a specialist of traditional baking), their price range is "middle class (€€- €€€)" according to Tripadvisor (= They should use not too cheap but somewhat decent quality ingredients), and they have been received excellent reviews (= they are loved and supported!). When we arrived at the store, I confirmed my choice was right. I wish I could live in there!

While I was excited to buy Kougelhopf, J was distracted by a butcher located just across the street. He bought a large meat-filled Tourte along with lentil salad.

Then J took me to a cheesemonger and picked up Munster.

Then we found another cheesemonger. J asked a shopkeeper for a regional cheese and selected a kind of soft cheese. I think it was Le Petit Emilie.

We thought we finished our shopping and it was time to go home. When we were heading toward the car garage, there was another cheesemonger. How we could ignore huge cheese wheels neatly alignged on the shelf? Of course, we entered the shop. J choose Tomme du Berry a la Lavende - a firm, washed rind, aged, smoothly textured cow's milk cheese with lavender, made in the region of Berry. I hadn't had idea how we like lavender flavored cheese, but later we tasted it and the cheese became the best out of the three kinds of cheese we bought during this trip. Great pick, J!

The vacation time was ending but there was a last minute surprise. A big rainbow! We chased it on our way back home in Wiesbaden.

We were home with delicious souvenirs and lovely memories. Thank you so much J for driving all ways!

Everything was very good. Perhaps, Kougelhopf and Penguin were my most favorites!
