Tako-Yaki

We had "Tako-Yaki" luncheon with our friend Mr & Mrs T.

Tako-Yaki is Japanese savory pancake balls with octopus, or "Tako." Not only boiled Tako but also pickled ginger and scallion are in the balls. The batter is made with Japanese soup stock "Dashi," cake flour, and egg with a little of soy sauce and Japanese sweet rice wine, Mirin.

Mr & Mrs T brought a special Tako-Yaki electric griddle which can make 18 Tako-Yaki at once. It was fun to cook several batches with everyone together. Our Tako-Yaki were what they were supposed to be: crispy outside and creamy inside. With traditional toppings like Japanese sweet savory sauce, dried seaweed powder (Ao-nori), and dried bonito flakes (Kastuo-bushi), Tako-Yaki were so yummy. We made total 90 balls for four of us. They were gone so quickly.
