Obelisk
We visited Obelisk, a fine Italian restaurant in Washington D.C.
Bread was really nice. While we were still chewing bread, Antipasti misti came one by one. First, House-made Burrata with olive. This was the best Burrata I've ever eaten!
Second, meat balls. J loved them!
Third, Matsutake mushroom arancini (fried risotto balls). Be careful, the inside is hot! Matsutake is one of precious foods and autumn tastes in Japan. Their menu captures the moment of the season by using seasonal ingredients.
Fourth, grilled radicchio with beets. This was an interesting dish. We liked the bitterness of radicchio with grilling flavor and sweet Balsamic vinaigrette.
Fifth, Bruschetta with octopus. Lovely!
These antipasti misti satisfied us very much. We couldn't believe we would have Primi from now. My primi was Tagliolini with sea urchin. J's was Watercress ravioli with pine nuts. Both pasta dishes were so delicate.
For Secondi, we shared Grouper with a fennel salad and Lamb with anchovy butter. Fish was perfectly seared. Anchovy butter on lamb was amazing. Each of the sides was faultless to support the fish/lamb.
Cheese time! Casatica, Canestrato and Pipe Dream Farm with eggplant walnut jam. My favorite was Casatica, Italian water buffalo sweet cheese. J liked from Pipe Dream Farm, creamy goat cheese from Pennsylvania.
Finally, Dolci. It was tough for me to choose only one from three options. After a deep consideration, I picked Date toffee crunch ice cream, which J also picked for his. The ice cream came along with a slice of warmed walnut tart. Yummy!!
After the rich ice cream, small sweets arrived. At that point, we couldn't find any space for the tiny cookies, nutty brittle candies, and apple jelly cubes or a cup of coffee. We took the small sweets home with us.
The service was very nice. The place was tiny but intimate. Definitely I loved every dish. They were simply so tasty. Nothing needs to be added. The restaurant seems to change the menu everyday. Impressive!
