It didn't take long for me to come back to
Maison Kayser in DC. This time I bought cheese and olive mini rolls for J, a chocolate almond croissant for me, two kinds of baguette sandwiches, and a couple of sweet pastries - Pain de Gênes (I guess) and pistachio Financier - for us.
Both of the pastries were lovely, actually better than I expected. I like these kinds of almond flour-based, moist, cake-like baked goods, but such things are not usually seen in an American bakery. If I lived near this kind of bakery, I could be too lazy to bake by myself...
