Bettys' Stem Ginger Cake
Bettys' Stem Ginger Cake was the most serious ginger cake I had. The cake part contained "pieces of stem ginger, ground almonds and a dash of ginger wine." Ginger wine? I have never seen it. According to wiki, "Ginger wine is a fortified wine made from a fermented blend of ground ginger root and raisins which was first produced in England." I see, it's a English thing. The cake's frosting was ginger butter and crystallised ginger pieces. Ginger everywhere!
The cake was moist and really ginger-spicy. I often see baked goods with ginger here, probably more than in the US. Ginger in those products is usually not subtle but very strong. English people must love ginger kicks in sweets. Am I right?
