Peck 47 (again) & Aux Merveilleux de Fred in Brussels
In the late afternoon of the second day in Brussels, J wanted to go back to Peck 47 and have healthy vegetable/fruit juice again. The cafe wasn't crazy busy at that time. We both had carrot, orange, apple and ginger juice. J also ordered lemonade. And we shared pistachio and white chocolate cake. The cake tasted lovely. It was lovely moist and wasn't too sweet. It would be wonderful for breakfast as well as afternoon tea. I wished that I had a recipe for the delicious cake!
It was our "museum" day. We visited the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History in the morning. In the afternoon, we explored three museums: the Oldmasters Museum, the Fin-de-Siècle Museum, and the Magritte Museum, which were parts of Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium.
At the Oldmasters Museum and the Fin-de-Siècle Museum, I found several interesting paintings by famous Flemish artists such as Pieter Bruegel, Hans Memling, and James Ensor. On the other hand, the Magritte Museum was a little disappointing. The Magritte exhibition that was held in Osaka, Japan about 20 years ago was much more impressive, I thought.
At the end of the day, we happened to pass by Aux Merveilleux de Fred, a French patisserie that was top 1 bakery in Brussels on tripadvisor. Their specialty seemed like meringue cakes while golden brioches (plain, with raisin and with chocolate chips) on the counter attracted me. We picked a couple of raisin brioches for tomorrow morning. They smelled heavenly through the paper bag. I wasn't sure if they could last to the next morning.
To be continued...
