Baltic States Tour - Riga, Latvia 4

It was a beautiful morning. Actually the whole day was supposed to be sunny. The problem was we could stay there only until 11 am before going to the airport.

The first thing we did was visiting the Riga Central Market again. We bought a total of four cans of Latvian sprats from one of the fishmongers.

We went to the food court and tried a Pankūka (pancake) from a vender called Pankūkas (pancakes) this time. Although the vendor's sign illustrated American style stack of pancakes. Their pancakes in the glass case were English style pancake, which is very thin almost like French crêpes.

I chose a Pankūka filled with cottage cheese and J had a Pankūkas filled with mushrooms and potatoes, I guess. The lady at the store re-heated our Pankūkas.

My pancake was tasty. The cottage cheese filling was sweet as I expected. The filling was super hot after being microwaved and I just had to eat it carefully and slowly. I think J liked his savory pancake.

This was a really nice market. We could have bought a lot of foods if Riga was our last stop.

We wandered around in the Old City for a while to look for a street that we haven't walked on yet. Good morning, the Riga Cathedral!

We hadn't passed by St. Saviour’s Anglican Church before. The church is part of the Church of England and the only Anglican church in Latvia.

Hello, the Three Brothers again!

We walked around the Saint Mary Magdalene Church of Riga, a Roman Catholic church several times but this was the first time to see the inside. It was first built in the 13th century as a wooden monastery chapel and the building of the current church dates from the 18th century.

Maybe we hadn't clearly seen the entire appearance of the Powder Tower until this last day.

The Freedom monument was over there!

One more time to see the cats on the roof.

By then we had obtained a very good view of the Old Town of Riga. We had a tea break at Rigensis, a local bakery/cafe that is located at the center of the Old Town.

Plum tarts, cheesecakes, apple strudels and baked goods with poppy seeds and nut fillings etc,... interestingly I found many of items that I could find in Germany.

My poppy seed cake was nice. I was simply curious how many poppy seeds were in the little cube. J had a cottage cheese cake, which looked fine. The cafe space was large, casual and cozy.

The last view of the House of the Black Heads. I finally realized that the building across from the House was the Riga City Hall.

To be continued...
