Stroopwafels
This was Organic Stroopwafel from Shady Maple Farms.
We found this lovely cookie at Wegmans' organic food section. I have been enjoying Shady Maple Farms' maple syrup. The cookie has a filling made with their maple sugar. Why not try? According to the box of the cookies, Stoopwafel, or syrup waffle originated with 18th century Holland, "where people in the Gouda region just couldn't get enough of the cunchy caramel-filled waffle biscuits." Stoopwafel is traditionally filled with caramel while Shady Maple Farms makes the Dutch treat with maple sugar.
It was semi-soft, slightly gooey, rich maple flavored. We liked it very much. The box contains only eight cookies, but just one cookie was big enough to satisfy us for afternoon tea. This will become a new choice of our store-bought treats.
