Autumn in DC 1 - Local Farmer's Market & more

We were in the States from the end of October to the mid-November, staying at J's parents house near Vienna, Virginia. We had a wonderful time with them and enjoyed beautiful fall colors and tastes. Pumpkin pie from a local farmer's market was one of them. The pie was wonderful by the way. The crust was very thin and light. The filling was silky smooth and creamy, full with pumpkin taste, perfectly spiced, and not overly sweet. I could eat the whole pie as a meal seriously. We came back to the market another weekend and bought a triple berry pie and mushroom and goat cheese quiche. Both were pretty good! The vendor was the only one who sold sweet pies/savory quiches at the market and had more customers than others. I could tell why they were so popular!

We also stopped by at Great Harvest Bread Co. in Vienna. The shop was still there! We bought (more precisely, J's parents did, thank you!) a loaf of multigrain sour bread and two kinds of "American size" cookies - classic oatmeal raisin and butterscotch kiltlifters. Their baked goods tasted still nice!

Across the street, there was a middle eastern market that we used to stop and shop when we visited J's parents. It was still there and looked like just what I remembered. We bought (well, J's parents did, Thank you again!!)  Kashke Bademjan, a Persian eggplant dip and tried some on the sourdough bread later. It was my first time to have the dip and we liked it very much! I haven't seen it in Harrogate. I might try to make some by myself.

Luckily the weather was great while we were there. We took a walk in the neighborhood sometimes so that we could eat more!

To be continued...
