Autumn in DC 3 - Peking Gourmet Inn

While we stayed in the DC, we celebrated Thanksgiving together earlier over not traditional turkey but Peking duck at Peking Gourmet Inn! Established in 1978, the family run Chinese restaurant is the only restaurant that I can think about when it comes to proper Peking duck in the DC metro area. The walls in the restaurant are covered with lots of photos of famous visitors, including the President. In fact although there is no photo evidence, we have been there before with J's parents and had a great time. It was J's lovely idea to come back to the place again all together for this special occasion.

We visited the restaurant at 3pm. There were only a few customers who were far away from our table. We had almost the place to ourselves! We ordered one of their Group Dinner sets. That was an easy way to enjoy their signature Peking duck with various other dishes without spending time to discuss what we should order from their very extensive menu. The dinner started with seafood asparagus soup. Actually the soup was served individually and you could choose hot and sour soup instead. So did J's parents.

Steamed dumplings and crab rangoon were the next. I liked the dumplings.

Here was our duck! The deep golden bird was neatly carved at our table-side.

And then our waiter created a Peking duck pancake roll for each. There were more duck as well as pancakes hoisin sauce, and spring onions. We made the second onward by ourselves to enjoy more!

Once we almost finished the delicious duck, a mountain of fried rice, black pepper shrimp, and orange beef, Peking Gourmet chicken, and fresh Shiitake mushrooms with Chinese baby green were served. What a feast!

Well, the three dishes (shrimp, beef and chicken) were mentioned to be "spicy" on their menu. Black pepper shrimp was very spicy for me while it was J and his father's favorite out of all we had the day. I managed Orange Beef, but when J said that Peking Gourmet chicken was spicier than Black pepper shrimp, I decided not to try the chicken. It must have been too spicy! I said good-bye to the dangerous chicken and served myself extra green and Shiitake. I believe J and his parents, who love spicy foods, enjoyed the chicken.

The dinner ended with mango ice cream and fortune cookies. The food and service were superb! This time the dinner was a treat by J's parents. Thank you so much!! We hope to come back there with them in the future. Next time will be our turn to treat them. I am sure the restaurant will be around.
