Japan 2019 - Somen
It was already pretty hot and slightly humid in Japan when I was there in the mid-June. One of lunch dishes my mother prepared was Somen, super-thin (about 1mm in diameter) Japanese wheat flour noodles. Somen is usually served cold with soy-sauce based savory dipping sauce and several toppings/garnishes, and very enjoyable especially on a hot summer day. I enjoyed the Somen lunch so much. I guess I could recreate Somen in the UK if I buy Somen noodles from a Japanese grocery store in London via online, but I couldn't get my favorite garnish Shiso, a Japanese herb that is related to the mint family. I used to grow Shiso by myself in the US. Like in the US, Shiso is not available at a grocery store in the UK. Ah, I miss Shiso very much!
