Mabo-Nasu

Aubergine in Fragrant Chilli (braised aubergine with minced pork) is one of our favorite delivery dishes from a local Chinese cafe. It's similar to a Japanese popular dish, Mabo-Nasu, an eggplant (Nasu) version of Mapo Tofu, one of the most popular classic Sichuan dishes. I didn't have black bean chili paste but Miso and some other spices created a deep tasty flavor. Although the result wasn't hot spicy like the dish from the cafe, it seemed that J enjoyed my creation. I also made Japanese-style Chili Shrimp, Ebi-Chili. It was also traditionally a hot spicy dish, but mine wasn't and was delicious. Meanwhile, I know J loves spicy foods. Maybe I will make both dishes a little bit more spicier for him next time if I can get black bean chili from somewhere somehow.
