Old English Piccalilli & Yorkshire Farmers Pickle from Santa Me

There were a few presents that Santa Me brought to J. Santa Me knew that J liked Bracken Hill's Yorkshire Dales Pickle, so Santa Me brought J Bracken Hill's Yorkshire Farmers Pickle as well as Old English Piccalilli. We bought a loaf of bread from Bettys and had a sandwich party to try the new pickles.

Yorkshire Farmers Pickle shares the same ingredients with Yorkshire Dales Pickle, but the ratio of each ingredient is different.

Yorkshire Farmers Pickle: Red Onions 26%, Carrots 19%, Apples 13%, Spirit Vinegar 13%, Swede 6%, Sugar 8%, Peaches, Cauliflower, Wine Vinegar 3%, Treacle 3%, Tomato Puree, Corn Starch, Ginger, Sea Salt, Spices.

Yorkshire Dales Pickle: Apples 28%, Onions 14%, Courgettes 14%, Wine Vinegar 8%, Tomato Puree 7%, Cauliflower 7%, Sugar 7%, Spices, Sea Salt.

Both has a similar taste but I thought Dales was sweeter and milder than Farmers. J, who usually prefers sour and spicy condiments, seemed to like Farmers. Piccalilli is usually mustard-y and less sweet, so J has bought at least three or four different brands of piccalilli so far. So, Santa Me decided to get a jar of piccalilli in addition to Yorkshire Farmers Pickle, and chose a "no added sugar" version. This Old English Piccalilli was the tartest and sharpest piccalilli that we have ever tried! I guess some sweetness is helpful to keep a good sour-tart balance here.

Wholewheat loaf bread that J chose at Bettys made wonderful sandwiches. I also made creamy mushroom soup with four kinds of mushrooms, which J liked very much.

By the way, there was one more jar of Bracken Hill's to J. That will be another story.
