Grilled Kielbasa, Green Chili Pepper & Red Onion Hoagies
This was grilled Kielbasa, green chili pepper and onion Hoagies.
It was the time to try Kielbasa from the Polish deli in Rockville. How should we enjoy? J said Hoagies. That was the term I had never heard before. Apparently hoagies are related to Philadelphia's Italian-American culture, a long sandwich that can be called submarine, and usually contain cold cuts and probably pickled peppers. But actually people make so many different variations freely. The bottom line here is, Let's make our version of Hoagies delicious!
About peppers, J's mother gave J some green chili peppers. They looked like Anaheim. Just in case that the peppers won't add too much heat to the sandwiches, especially to mine, J removed seeds. While doing so, he started sneezing. Although Anaheim is usually categorized as mild, certainly our peppers were releasing some spicy heat clouds in the air.
J charcoal-grilled the peppers and Kielbasa. Chopped red onion and garlic was in the aluminum package, which was J's idea!
I chopped the grilled peppers after removing the blacken parts. Grilling didn't mild the pepper. They were still spicy but had a nice pepper flavor. Kielbasa got handsome grilled marks. Red onion with garlic was perfectly steamed and sweeten!
Sandwich buns were freshly homemade! I adapted a recipe of Super Soft and Chewy Hoagie Rolls that I found online. According to J's request, I added sesame toppings.
Mustard is important. We picked this Polish mustard at the same Polish deli. It was like spicy brown mustard.
Voila! They were fantastic. Our tummies were happily full!
