Our First Lemon Drop Melon

This was our first Lemon Drop Melon.

Never seen and heard Lemon Drop Melons. I found the melons at Wegmans. The sticker said "Sweet melon flavor with a lemon twist." I was so curious. I like melon as well as lemon. Why not try?
Inside was beautiful light green. Texture was smooth. Not sweet like cantaloupe. Closer to honeydew but less "melon" taste. It was kinda tart. Yes, that was surely lemon-like tartness. According to a website called Specialty Produce, "The Lemon Drop melon is the hybrid result of successive breeding efforts of marrying wild melon varieties with high citric acid content and sweet Galia melons. It was developed in the Mediterranean region in the late 20th Century." I see, there is no actual lemon involvement. Fascinating. After all, did we like it? We (mostly I) ate the whole melon. But it would better for us to see melon and lemon separately.
