Cherry Poppy Seed Cake

This was cherry poppy seed cake.

Once I saw a picture of a beautiful tea cake with cherries on David Lebovitz's blog, one of food blogs I love, I have made up my mind to make one. Then, I did! I followed his recipe with a few changes. Although he said the cake is not overly sweet, the amount of sugar still sounded lot. I reduced almost half of that. I also used low-fat yogurt instead of whole milk yogurt.
Ta-da! It looked lovely!
It tasted lovely too! Lemony and poppy-seedy sponge, juicy big cherries, sweet nutty crumble top. Love, love, love. The light sweet cake was great for breakfast. I would love to make the cake again when fresh cherry season comes. It will be soon!
