Peak District Day 3 - Cave Dale & Castleton

The sun came back on Day 3! It was time to go home. We had breakfast at our B&B like the day before. It was a simple continental style. Sorry J, no bacon, egg or sausage for you! I liked their homemade yogurt. Our table was next to the window with a garden view. There wasn't other guests in the dining room. Just two of us. Quiet and pleasant. Their Spode Blue Italian tableware made me think about purchasing some classic English bone china before we leave England... What would J say about it?

Our B&B was a beautiful Georgian house that celebrated its 300 year anniversary recently. This trip made me feel anything less than 100 years pretty new and young. I hope old English architecture will survive peacefully.

We checked out right after breakfast and didn't go home directly. We picked another hiking trail, Cave Dale! The starting point was Castleton, a village situated at the head of the Hope Valley in the Peak District National Park. Why did we choose Cave Dale? Because it was another filming location for Princess Bride!

The trail was going up. It wasn't sharp but very rocky. Shallow water was running over some part of the trail. Gladly we wore a proper pair of shoes on!

There was Peveril Castle, a ruined 11th century castle on a hilltop. It was founded by William Peverel, a Norman knight. The first owner of Haddon Hall!

Looking back the way we came...

The trail got more flat and less rocky...

There was a junction. We took a path that runs on the top of the hill and goes back to Castleton.

Baaaaa

What a gorgeous day!!

Looking back the way we came...

I guess that the gentle peak on the left was Mam Tor but I am not sure what the pointy peak on the right was. Lose Hill, maybe?

We tried to look down the valley to see the path we took. However, the strong sunshine made a deep shadow. It was hard to see anything in the shadow!

From the opposite side, we managed to see the trail on the bottom of the valley!

We were getting close to the village of Castleton.

Castleton was another charming little in the Peak District National Park. Interestingly there were several jewelry shops in such a little village. They sell gemstones found in local caverns. I had't known that there are several caves around the area!

Time for lunch! We tried Tilly's, a popular tearoom in the village. I had egg salad sandwiches and J had Welsh rarebit with ham. My sandwiches were pretty good. I believe J liked his dish.

After the nice lunch, we picked up a couple of bread at a local shop and headed home. It was a wonderful long weekend trip. Peak District wasn't really far from our home. We should go back there again soon!
