Helo Wales! 9: Porthmadog - The Big Rock Cafe
We left B&B in Beddgelert without having a breakfast and drove to the south for Porthmadog, a small harbour town at the foot of Snowdonia National Park. Our destination in Porthmadog was a very-well-rated bakery/cafe in the town called The Big Rock Cafe. The cafe was open at 8:30am. We were the first customer on the day while some people quickly followed us. The dining area was surprisingly spacious, which I couldn't see from the outside. The decor was rustic and cozy.
We both had Welsh breakfast. J told a lady at the counter that we would like breakfast. Apparently "breakfast" meant Welsh breakfast, which we have seen at all the places we have been during this trip. We placed an order of breakfast for two without knowing that we did so. There was a menu but I didn't have a chance to look it through and will never know what other options would be available.
The lady asked us which size of breakfast we would like. It was thoughtful to give us an option of a couple of serving size. J had large(standard?); I had small. In addition to tea or coffee, a glass of orange juice came with the breakfast, which I appreciated. The breakfast was great. Especially, the toast was delicious. I believe it was their homemade bread. Bacon (ham?) was a bit salty but tasty. Sausage was nice, too. Baked beans were just standard, which I assume was from a can of Heinz's.
As a bakery, there were several fresh baked goods around the counter. They looked very nice. We got a couple of treats for ourselves, which I will introduce on a different post sometime later.
To be continued...
