Vegetarian Italian Sausage, Pepper & Onion Hoagies

These were vegetarian Italian sausage, pepper and onion hoagies.

Field Roast has been our top brand of veggie dogs so far, and their smoked apple sage sausages have become our new friend recently. This time we were excited to try their Italian sausages!
My question was what to do with them. Hoagies was the answer that popped up in mind first somehow. J liked the idea, so why not? Hoagie rolls were homemade. I adapted a recipe that I found online with some changes like halving the recipe, using olive oil and adding egg white wash on the top. For the filling, according to J's suggestion, I cut sausages lengthwise and pan-fried them. Meanwhile, I sautéed sliced onion and green and red peppers and cooked the veggies with a couple of tablespoons of Rao's marinara sauce. And made a sandwich with the fillings, topped with a few slices of Provolone cheese and oven-toasted it until the cheese melted. Bon appetit!
The result was very good, honestly better than I expected. The sandwich was definitely filled with Italian-like flavors. The sausages had a nice "meaty" texture like the other Field Roast's products. No-meat sandwich could be wonderful like this; who would still call for meat?
