Katsu-Don & Ramen @ Domo

A Japanese restaurant is now in Harrogate! We visited Domo, currently the only Japanese restaurant in the town, in a few days after their grand opening day. Their menu was extended - various sushi and Japanese-ish (some Korian-ish) dishes. I tried Katsudon, breaded deep-fried pork cooked with eggs in a soy sauce-based sweet and savory sauce and placed over rice. Domo's Katsudon contained some vegetables such as carrots and Shiitake mushrooms, which I liked very much. The size of the dish was generous and it tasted fine.
J had a kind of Ramen. Soup for the Ramen was supposed to be "Tonkotsu (pork bones)," but Domo's soup didn't taste like Tonkotsu that I have had before. Somehow it tasted like soy milk. Strange. J enjoyed it anyway although he pointed it out that only two thin slices of Chashu (pork belly braised in soy sauce, sake, and mirin) were on top.
For a starter, we shared Cha Cha Rolls (crispy duck, salad, cucumber, hoisin sauce). I have seen various creative sushi rolls in the US, but not one with duck. The duck rolls were actually pretty good.
Overall, their food was better than I expected. We are happy to have a Japanese restaurant that serves not only sushi but also some other Japanese-ish dishes near by.
