Summer Memories 2019 - Tonkatsu & more @ Maisen

J and I were somehow in Japan at the end of this summer. We were in Osaka one day. J had a premium Black Pork Tonkatsu (deep fried breaded pork cutlet) at a long-established Tonkatsu specialist, Maisen. The high-end Black Pork was prepared and cooked by the restaurant's Tonkatsu master. I hope that J enjoyed the genuine Japanese Tonkatsu experience!

We shared a small bowl of crab and cucumber salad, which apparently has been a popular side dish of the restaurant since its founding (1965). It tasted like egg salad.

I didn't feel like eating a deep-fried meat at that time, so I had thin sliced Black Pork cooked with soy sauce-based sweet sauce and ginger. The pork was tender and tasty although the sauce was a bit salty for my taste. I confess that I prefer my own ginger pork seasoning. Perhaps I made a wrong choice at a Tonkatsu restaurant that knows all about Tonkatsu.
