The Lakes Day 2 - Loughrigg Fell

Our first walk in the Lake District was Loughrigg Fell. The weather was cloudy with a light shower off and on, but we were fine with water-proof jacket, pants and hiking shoes!

It was a circular route that started from Ambleside, passing St Mary's Parish Church and Rothay Park.

Is that the top of Loughrigg Fell?

Look, Windermere over there!

Well, we were supposed to walk up to the top of the Loughrigg Fell, but took a wrong pass, which took us to Loughrigg Tarn! I don't know what we missed at the summit, but we were able to see the peaceful tarn and sheep instead.

Eventually we were back to the original route. We had a nice tea break at a bench that looked down beautiful Grasmere.

Bluebells were blooming everywhere.

We walked down to Rydal Water.

More bluebells! How pretty!

We stepped out from the circular route to see the village of Rydal. The chapel of St Mary Rydal had a lovely garden with colorful rhododendrons and azaleas.

Rydal Mount,  an English Romantic poet, William Wordsworth's house.

While we were looking for Rydal Mount, an English Romantic poet, William Wordsworth's house, we strayed into Rydal Hall, a residential conference and retreat centre, which was once the home of the le Fleming family, originally built in the 16th century.

There was a tea room back of the main building that used to be the schoolroom for the le Fleming children and children from the village. Cream tea was a nice treat after a long walk!

The Grot (summerhouse) and water falls on Rydal Beck were supposed to be down there although I couldn't see them well.

We walked another 30-40 minute to Ambleside. When we got there, it was our dinner time. We tried Jintana Thai restaurant in the town, which was conveniently open for late afternoon.

My steamed shrimp and pork dumplings were nice. J's Tom Yum with chicken looked and smelled spicy!

We both had Pad Thai (Mine with veggie; J's with veggie and chicken). The noodles were covered with something that looked like a fishing net (made with flour and water?), which I haven't seen on Pad Thai before. The dish tasted sweet, tomato-y. It was ok but not the best in my opinion.

To be continued...
