Neroburg

It was a wonderful day out! First we enjoyed a lovely breakfast at Dale's Cake again. I had pancakes. I was almost ordering two pieces but glad I went with three. J had all-in-one omelette again. He must really like it.

Then we went up to Neroberg, a local mountain (245 meter high) of Wiesbaden by taking a funicular railway called Nerobergbahn. It's currently the only railway running by taking advantage of the weight of water since 1888. The system fits Germany's green culture very well.

It was a quick (only 3-4 mins) and fun ride. The park around the top station of Neroberg included an observatory that you can look down the town of Wiesbaden and more, the round Neroberg Temple, and a cafe. We decided to walk down to Nerotal - Nerobergbahn valley station.

On the way to Nerotal, there was Opel bath, an open-air pool. We should have brought a swimming wear! Also there was the Russian Orthodox Church of Saint Elizabeth. Duke Adolf of Nassau built the Russian-Byzantine style church for his deceased wife, Grand Duchess Elisabeth Michailovna who came from St. Petersburg in the mid 19th century. The gold onion domes were so shiny. We couldn't miss them on our way down!

It was pretty easy to get back to the bottom station on foot. Although we had a big breakfast, the weather was nice and there was a sign of an Italian restaurant just across the road from the station. Why not lunch? We were seated outside dining area of Ristorante Girasole im Nerotal. I hadn't known anything about the place but it turned to a delightful experience.

We ordered two kinds of pasta dishes to share. One was tortelloni with salsiccia (Italian sausage) and scamorza (Southern Italian cow's milk cheese). The other one was fettuccine "Nero" with wild-caught scampi. Both were really good. The pasta was fresh and delicate and went with the tasty sauce and fillings very well.

The location, outside of the busy town center, plus you can see the cute Nerobergbahn going up and down, was nice, too. I definitely look forward to going back to the restaurant. When, J?
