Brunch @ Purple Patch
We had a brunch at Purple Patch, an American Filipino restaurant in Mt Pleasant, D.C.
It was our first visit to the place. Filipino cuisine is new for us and the place have received many good reviews on Yelp. We were very excited to dine there! We got a table at their dark bar area because all tables in the second bright dining room were taken. Lesson learned: Make a reservation! It wasn't a matter, though. Our waiter at the bar was very friendly and attentive. Plus, we ate fast and leave quickly as usual anyway. We both ordered Filipino dishes. J tried Sisig - chopped belly and shoulder that is sautéed with onion, vinegar, lemon juice, birds eye chile and then topped with an egg, served on a sizzling platter with side of jasmine rice; I tried, well, I forgot the name, but it was grilled sweet pork with garlic fried rice, 2 fried eggs, with tomatoes and scallions.
I liked mine! Gilled sweet pork was tender and tasty. It reminded me of Korean BBQ. I wished they served more pork! Garlic rice and runny eggs were nice, too. It looked J also enjoyed his dish, but he said it was kinda salty. I had a couple of bites of his pork and thought it was salty. Mixing the dish with garlic rice, which was not salty, like a fried rice together could have helped tasting less salty, maybe?
I have seen many picture of their desserts on Yelp, especially baked sweets made with purple yam, or Ube. I was dreaming to have one until our waiter told us their dessert menu was not available for brunch. Lesson Learned: come here for dinner! Then, he said they could serve ice cream and the minimum order would be three scoops. Of course, we didn't turn down the offer. Three scoops? No problem! The choices of ice cream were Ube, coconut, and vanilla. We got two Ube and a coconut. Yum. Since their dinner menu is extended including the full dessert list, it would be better to go there for dinner. However, it was a great introduction of Filipino cuisine for us!
