Uji Matcha Monaka
This was Uji Matcha Monaka.
I bought the traditional Japanese sweets at Narita airport on my way home. The airport was the last minutes shopping spot to buy this kind of traditional Japanese sweets that I would miss in the US. I knew I had done a lot of shopping by then, I couldn't help but add one more thing while I was waiting for my flight departure.
Uji Matcha Monaka is rice wafer cake filled with sweetened red bean paste and Japanese green tea Matcha flavored Mochi (soft rice cake), made by Itohkyuemon, a Japanese tea company in Uji, Kyoto. It was soft, gently sweet and super tasty! I loved every aspect of this little cake.
Surprisingly J liked it. I thought he might have been tired of traditional Japanese sweets that are usually made with sweetened red bean paste, rice cake, or both. I can buy more for him and me!
