Saigon Noodle House

We had a lunch at Saigon Noodle House, a local Vietnamese restaurant in Crofton, MD.

We have been to the restaurant once a while for many years. People there are kind and always smiling. I guess that is the most reason why we go back there. Food is nice too. I am not a specialist of Vietnamese cuisine, but there is nothing wrong with their simple hot noodle soup. We usually order pho with vegetable for me and Pho Ga (chicken) for J. Simple and tasty. J likes this place especially because they have hot chili sauce made without garlic, which is a big deal for him!
We got a couple of appetizers: vegetable spring rolls and fried wonton. The latter was our first time and didn't look like a picture in the menu... they were ok, nicely crispy. Lessons learned. We should stick to just spring rolls. The restaurant usually offer bubble tea but didn't this time, so J ordered Thai iced tea for both of us, which we had never had before.
Hello, Thai tea. Who are you? You tasted very sweet but a little bitter spicy. Later I researched Thai tea. It is made with strongly brewed Ceylon (or sometimes Assam) tea with orange blossom water, star anise, crushed tamarind seed, and other spices and sweetened with sugar and condensed milk. Interesting. I tasted something like star anise. But there was some kind of smoky spices like turmeric, I thought. Yes, definitely sugar. The white part in the bottom of the glass might have been condensed milk. It was a mystery drink...
