Huize Colette in Ghent

We stopped by at Ghent on our way back to Brussels from Bruges. We arrived at the Old Town of Ghent around 9am and tried to find a place for breakfast. It turned into an unexpectedly difficult task! After a good amount of walk as well as online research, J found Huize Colette and we rushed there. It was a cute cafe. I had tea and croissant; J had a kind of breakfast set that came with orange juice, hot chocolate with espresso, croissant, egg, cured meat, cheese and bread.

The continental style breakfast was pretty good. J's hot chocolate with espresso was wonderful! Later I learned the cafe was known as a chocolate cafe and their hot chocolate was very popular.

Like Bruges, Ghent was a charming place with beautiful steeple-roofed buildings along canals, but unlike Bruges, it had a big city vibe. As the geographical position suggested, it seemed that Ghent had a combination of what Bruges and Brussels each offered.

There was a medieval castle in the middle of the Old Town. Gravensteen, the residence of the Counts of Flanders between the 12th and 14th century. We did a self-tour in the castle. Maybe I have been used to seeing castles in England. Gravensteen didn't surprise me, but the view from the top was splendid.
