Maison Dandoy in Brussels
Probably J didn't understand why I kept asking him to go to Maison Dandoy to eat waffles all the time during our trip even though we have already had waffles in Bruges. It was my little dream to taste their waffles. There were many waffle shops in the city; however, Maison Dandoy seemed the best according to my online research. We visited their tearoom as well as shop in the Royal Galeries of Saint-Hubert earlier but gave up at the both times due to the ridiculously long waiting line to get a table. On our last day in Belgium, we revisited their shop in the Galeries and luckily secured a table! I ordered Brussel waffle with vanilla ice cream and cooked strawberries. Light and crispy. The toppings were great, better than those in Bruges. My mission was successfully accomplished. I didn't care for the powder sugar on waffle again, though.
Although Maison Dandoy's waffles have been very popular in Brussels, apparently their specialty is fresh biscuits (American would call them "cookies"), especially speculoos (traditional spiced shortcrust biscuits in the region), that they have been baking for the last 180 years! Of course, we bought various biscuits (cookies) and took them back home, which will be another story.
We had a wonderful time in Belgium. Three cities we visited were beautiful and introduced us their own interesting history and delicious foods. We were really fortunate to have a gorgeous weather and mild temperature every day during our trip.
Au revoir!
