Bettys Fat Rascals & Siblings
I have no idea how many Fat Rascals I have eaten so far. The palm-sized rocky scone with "a cheeky glacé cherry and almond face" is one of Bettys most-famous and best-selling baking goods. It's pretty large and very buttery-rich but so delicious that I can eat one by myself.
While we are fans of Fat Rascals, it has been enjoyable to meet Fat Rascal's siblings that showed up during a certain season. We found Avent Cakes around the last Christmas. Avent Cakes were made with currants, raisins, sultanas and seasonal spices, topped with flaked almonds and sugar snow.
Similar to Avent Cakes, Easter version of Fat Ruscals are Bettys Bury Simnels made with currants and seasonal spices, topped with flaked almonds. The aromatic "seasonal spices"(I guess a mix of warm spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove) gave both versions festive spirits.
Recently we found Chocolate & Orange Little Rascals. They were smaller than classic Fat Rascals. The combination of chocolate and orange was unbeatable. The petite size was actually attractive so that we can enjoy one with tea even after dinner.
