Vienna, Austria 4: Melangerie
On our second day in Vienna, we had a quick brunch at Melangerie, a cozy cafeterie & bistro on Lerchenfelder Strasse. Although I was pretty much hungry, we had a reservation for lunch a few hours later, so I ordered a carrot cake along with lemonade for a light meal. The cake was a surprise! So light, moist, gently sweet, and tasty! It could be one of the best carrot cakes that I have ever had. The cafe offered several kinds of cakes and all looked nice. I wished I had time and appetite to taste them.
Meanwhile, J enjoyed his coffee and savory dish: Das G'Sund Und Fit - organic scrambled eggs with ham and cheese, rye whole grain bread, butter, carrot-apple-ginger juice. The staff there were very friendly. It was a lovely place to sit, eat and relax.
Our adventure in the early morning was to visit Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburgs since 1569 and one of Europe's most beautiful Baroque complexes.
The garden opens at 6:30 am. We got there before 7:30 am. The garden was huge and beautiful. Since it was pretty early and the house of the palace wasn't open yet, a large group of tourists weren't there yet. Just some locals were taking a morning walk or jogging in the garden. We had a lovely walk there peacefully.
When we went to the house of the palace around 9 am, the house was packed with so many tourists. By the way, the house has over 1,400 rooms: 40 rooms of them are open for public. If I lived in the palace, I would easily get lost.
