Vienna, Austria 8: Demel

I have been dreaming of tasting a cake at Demel for several years. Founded in 1786, Demel is one of the most famous pastry shops & coffeehouses in the city. I clearly remember the pictures of beautiful cakes on a Saveur's article about Demel that was issued in February 2009, believing that I would visit Demel someday. J made my dream come true! Thank you J so much!!

The real Demel was a heaven. I was overwhelmed by their gorgeous fresh cakes and pastries.

So, which cake should I try? It was one of the most difficult choices I ever had to make. Seriously. I picked Russian Punch Cake (Russische Punschtorte). It was one of the cakes that were mentioned in the Saveur's article. The cake - "a showstopping layer cake has a creamy custard filling and a meringue frosting" according to Saveur - was delightful.
