Salzburg, Austria 5: Stiege No.1 in Werfen

We took a train from Salzburg to a small village called Werfen to see Hohenwerfen Castle, a medieval rock castle. Almost all shops in the village were somehow closed in the mid-day but luckily we found a fancy restaurant, Stiege No.1 open and had a very nice lunch.

My first dish was white asparagus soup with a crispy shrimp. It was light, smooth and tasty. J had clear fish soup, which also looked yummy.

My main dish was Salzburger Schnitzel. The Salzburg version of Schnitzel was made with pork and filled with champignon, bacon, and herb, served with potatoes. It was a nice change from Wiener Schnitzel (made with veal without filling) that we had during this trip. Steamy hot and delicious! I usually don't eat fried foods, but I have surprisingly been enjoying schnitzels in Austria.

J's main dish was chicken breasts with brown sauce and a kind of noodles. I tasted a bit of the noodles. They were pretty good! They were like fresh thin pasta. I liked the sauce, too.

Talking about Hohenwerfen Castle, it was great to visit! Although the weather wasn't perfect, we enjoyed the guided tour inside of the castle and the castle's famous birds of prey show! The falconry demonstration was impressive. We were able to see the birds so close. Actually one of them hit me!
