Vienna, Austria 11: Julius Meinl am Graben
Finally our Austria trip was ending. On the last day, we had enough time for breakfast and shopping until our flight departure time. Julius Meinl am Graben's restaurant at the second floor was bright and elegant. The place was an excellent choice to appreciate Viennese cuisine at the end.
J had "Meinls Business-Breakfast ready to Eat"- roll with smoked salmon and biiled ham, rye bread with cottage cheese and tomatoes, cereal with fruits and scrambled egg. Also, two cups of Melange.
I started with fresh grapefruit juice. I saw our server was squeezing fresh grapefruits with a hand-press juicer. The freshest juice ever!
My breakfast choice was Meinls Viennese Breakfast - a croissant or brioche (I chose brioche), a Viennese roll, jam, butter, a soft boiled egg in the glass, a while wheat bread with chive, and Bircher muesli. The jam, which was apricot, was splendid. Bread was pretty good. I have never had soft boiled egg that was already pealed and placed in a bowl. The muesli was lovely with a lot of fresh berries. The toast with chive was interesting. I thought it later that I should have had the toast with soft boiled egg together. Anyway, the breakfast was plenty and made me so full and happy.
Julius Meinl am Graben is a three-floor-luxury grocery store and the restaurant was a part of it. From sweets to savory, from dried pasta to fresh cheese, meat and fish, the store was full with both domestic and international finest foods. I could easily spend a whole day to shop there. We bought some items made in Austria as our souvenirs, which will be introduced in a post sometime later.
What a fantastic and delicious trip! Auf Wiedersehen, Austria!
